Stellenbeschreibung
We are seeking a highly innovative and skilled Hybrid Photonics Engineer to join our Optics Research team in Lörrach. This pivotal role involves the design, development, and characterization of cutting-edge hybrid photonic systems, integrating diverse optical components and technologies to achieve unparalleled performance. You will be instrumental in exploring new concepts, conducting advanced simulations, and translating research findings into tangible prototypes for future generations of optical devices. This position requires a deep understanding of photonics, wave optics, semiconductor physics, and an eagerness to work across multidisciplinary teams.
Hauptverantwortlichkeiten
- Design and simulate novel hybrid photonic devices and integrated optical circuits.
- Develop and optimize fabrication processes for combining different material platforms and optical components.
- Perform advanced optical characterization of prototypes, including spectroscopy, interferometry, and near-field measurements.
- Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and provide actionable insights for design iterations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including materials scientists, electrical engineers, and software developers.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in photonics, optics, and related fields to identify new opportunities.
- Document research findings, present results, and contribute to scientific publications and patent applications.
- Participate in project planning, resource allocation, and timeline management for research initiatives.
- Contribute to a culture of innovation, scientific rigor, and continuous improvement.
Erforderliche Fähigkeiten
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in photonics engineering or optics research.
- Proven expertise in the design, simulation (e.g., FDTD, FEM), and characterization of photonic devices.
- Strong understanding of wave optics, electromagnetism, and semiconductor physics.
- Hands-on experience with optical characterization techniques and lab equipment.
- Proficiency in scientific programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) and optical simulation software.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong analytical mindset.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
Bevorzugte Qualifikationen
- Experience with hybrid integration techniques (e.g., flip-chip bonding, wafer bonding, pick-and-place).
- Familiarity with cleanroom fabrication processes and micro/nanofabrication.
- Knowledge of specific material systems relevant to integrated photonics (e.g., silicon photonics, III-V semiconductors, lithium niobate).
- Experience with machine learning applications in photonics research.
- German language skills.
